One of the things that makes Rare Edition different is our commitment to transparency and clarity around our grading system.

Our grading starts with a high-resolution scan of both the front and the back of your card, allowing our computer vision algorithms to begin scanning the card details. Our patent-pending computer vision process assesses the front and back corners, edges, centering, and surface, finding areas for our expert graders to review as well as providing a provisional grade for the 20 distinct areas we look at.

The card then passes to our expert grading team, who inspect the physical card for any evidence of tampering or restoration. In parallel, our graders review the computer vision results alongside the card itself, adjusting or editing damaged areas as needed and building a final grade for the card. In some cases our senior graders will also review the report and the card itself to make certain nothing was missed or incorrectly noted.

Grades for each component of a card - all four corners, all four edges, surface, and centering for both the front and back - are presented in a complete grade report

After the grading has been completed, a grading report is generated. This is where Rare Edition delivers on its commitment to transparency and clarity: Grades for each component of a card - all four corners, all four edges, surface, and centering for both the front and back - are presented in a complete grading report, along with high-resolution images of each damaged area. Any issues are tagged and called out on our report, and anyone with a Rare Edition account can review every piece of data that our team found, as well as exactly where it lies on the card.

Every grading report’s summary can be viewed by the public in our pop report. The summary contains the high-resolution images of the card (both raw and graded) as well as the overall grade and sub-grades.

Customers who are logged in to Rare Edition can view a card's entire grading report, including every area of detail and damage if present.

It’s all part of our commitment to give our customers consistent, transparent grading. It’s how we’re continuing to raise the bar for grading companies everywhere, and it’s available free for every card graded with Rare Edition.

Want to see it in action? Buy a pre-sale slot to be among the first to grade your cards with us, and let us show you why there are graded cards, and then there are Rare Cards.
